Creatures of Habit

How do you start your days ? Are there certain routines that happen at some point???
Perhaps ... brushing teeth, showering, a cup of coffee/tea ... Or, even breakfast, exercising, meditation, journaling, reading, feeding a pet, checking up on kids, work etc. are part of a morning routine.
Thanks to our “built-in-habits”, any one of those activities can happen pretty routinely and semi-effortlessly. Thank you Mr/Mrs Habit for “taking over” so we don’t have to think.
Seem familiar?
Well, we breathe life into our THOUGHT HABITS too. Our actions/thoughts become these habits. These habits are then formed into routines. These routines become lifestyles and engrained/embedded into who we are. So fortunately, as with our actions, our thoughts also happen semi-effortlessly. This serves us well for those thoughts that are expansive. Those thoughts that help us grow and move forward.
Approach with caution however, alternate thoughts. Ones that limit us. Ones that don’t allow our minds and body to flourish. Habits that get formed from other cues. Those scary ones.
I would remind you not to focus on how unsettled or scared you feel. If you do, your mind will supply you with more situations and basis for feeling as such.
But if you focus on emerging possibilities and the excitement of the unknown, then your mind will provide your more positive and new possibilities to support those latter thoughts.
Habits (habitual behavior) make things flow; you don’t have to think about something as much. This process can be largely unintentional. We learn to form connections between different activities.
We form associations between cues and respond as such.
Find comfort in those daily habits & routines that serve you better. Initiate the good.
We are what we think. I encourage you to INTENTIONALLY DISRUPT certain thoughts that don’t serve you. Become a creature of new habits.
